Symbolism
When I give these symbolic meanings, of things such as coins and wands etc., remember that the meanings are a combination of archetypal and instinctual qualities of the symbols. The important thing is how you interpret and apply the symbol to your life. You make the correspondence. Don’t get caught up believing a bunch of hocus-pocus as true facts, the facts are irrelevant, only the lessons are of value. The connections that are made, by reflecting on the symbols that are given, and applying the instinctual and archetypal interpretations to your own life. Many of the meanings of the symbols are interpretations based on various archetypal elements of the tarot.

The tarot deck was first used to play a game, not for fortune telling. Some speculate that it predates playing cards, I tend to believe that the major arcanna was added to a deck that was similar to modern deck(the minor arcanna). Perhaps the deck(minor arcanna) was created with symbolic meaning pertaining to the calender year or the zodiac, there are 13 original zodiac signs in the eliptic, more likely the correspondences were created later. Each of the four suits Clubs,Hearts,Spades, and Diamonds not only correpondes to the Wands,Cups,Swords and Coins of the Tarot but also to the 4 elements Fire, Water, Air and Earth.
